The "Walk to Freedom" happened in Detroit on June 23, 1963, and it was the largest civil rights march in history at the time drawing a crowd of about 125,000. Historian and tour guide Jamon Jordan traveled to the site where Martin Luther King spoke after the completion of the march. That speech became the precursor to Mr. King's "I Have a Dream" speech. Known as the birthplace of Motown, Detroit's music history goes further back than the soul sounds of Smokey Robinson and Aretha Franklin. In his book "Heaven Was Detroit," author M.L. Liebler chronicled the history of Detroit's music scene from early jazz to modern day techno and the impact its had on the city. Sponsor: C-SPAN | Local Content Vehicle

Ramon Taylor, VOA News 13 August 2017 (0:29AM) Detroit, Michigan, knows hardship and recovery. One of the hardest hit areas in the country during the Great Recession, the Midwestern Rust Belt city has since found an ingredient to its economic revitalization through empowerment of its immigrant communities. But not everyone is convinced that the solution is viable or helps anyone beyond the immigrants themselves. Ramon Taylor has more.

D.I.D. is the second album by Jim Konen (guitars) and Dick Metcalf (aka Rotcod Zzaj, who played Kurzweill PC 88 on this CD). Konen is famous in his local zone (Detroit/Motown) for some masterful techno guitar playing that he performs as "VisionEar". Metcalf has been recording and performing around the country (& the world) since about 1975. I have removed these files from my archive; they are now available for sale, at Zzaj Productions
