The Watsonville Public Library collection contains images from the 1880s to 1990s. A majority of the collection contains images from a series titled the "Shades of Watsonville." Subjects include photographic history of Watsonville residential life, commercial life, and flooding of the Pajaro River.

Description : Cristofina and Joe Carrillo's wedding in St. Patrick's Church. Cristofina's father was born in Glendale, CA and her mother in Jalisco, Mexico. Her father's family arrived in 1966 and came by horse - it took them three months to get to San Jose, CA. They left Mexico because of the poor conditions and worked here in the strawberry fields. Man in a canoe at Main St. and Bridge St. The Pajaro River overflowing was a continual problem until the middle of the 20th century when the first levies were built c. 1930 and rebuilt in 1949; however there was still flooding several times with enormous damage and two deaths in 1995. Description : Henry Alton Hyde (1871 - 1949, Harold Hyde's grandfather), proprietor of the H.A. Hyde Co. Nursery on old Main St. which today is near Hyde and Freedom Blvd, Watsonville. Description : The J.M. Lukrich packing shed on W. Beach Rd. with a 4 horse wagon hauling boxes in front. Joe Borich is the driver. Lukrich arrived in 1910 from the Island of Brac, Dalmatia, Croatia and worked in the orchards for two years until he had enough money to buy a horse and plow and to rent a small apple orchard.
