[ cheers and applause ] >> jimmy: thank you very much. i feel the love! that's a hot crowd. oh, my goodness. oh, feels so good. thank you. thank you. thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, everyone. welcome. welcome to "the tonight show." this is it. you're here. you're at the show. [ cheers and applause ]
10:36 pm
i'm your host, jimmy fallon. you guys, we have justin bieber on the show tonight. [ cheers and applause ] do we have any beliebers in the audience? [ cheers and applause ] no? oh, well. [ laughter ] guess i'm the biggest belieber here. he's a good man. he's got a new record. he's gonna kill it tonight, when you see him. he's just so talented. the guy -- [ cheers and applause ] new song "sorry." let's get to news first. you guys, i saw that donald trump went on twitter today and he mocked ronda rousey for losing her fight this past weekend. in response, t-mobile's ceo said he'd pay to see trump fight her in the ring. [ laughter and applause ] at which point, trump started building a wall around himself. [ applause ] like, i don't like this. build a giant wall. i'm sorry. did you guys see this?
10:37 pm
in a recent interview, sarah palin admitted that katie couric's questions back in 2008 about what newspapers palin reads, was actually fair. that's right. she admitted "i had a crappy answer." [ light laughter ] when asked what paper she reads now, palin said, "hoo, boy. probably should have saw this one coming. [ light laughter ] uh, uh, uh. read? i mean, what do you read? do you read? i read that, too. yeah." guys, president obama is overseas this week. that's right, he's joining other world leaders in turkey for the g- 20 summit. which is unusual, because normally when people are gathered around turkey debating obama, it's just a bunch of drunk uncles at thanksgiving. [ laughter and applause ] not my president. i didn't vote for him. all right. i think a lot of people might agree with this. in pope francis' latest weekly address, pope francis
10:38 pm
phones at the dinner table. which begs the question then, who is on their phone while they eat dinner with the pope? [ laughter ] [ applause ] i mean, that's like -- oh, i'll be there as soon as i can. just having a dinner with pope what's-his-name. [ light laughter ] he's looking at me. [ light laughter ] who would do that? >> steve: who would do that? >> jimmy: actually, this is pretty crazy. in a new interview, mark zuckerberg said facebook will be more intelligent than humans in ten years. yeah, when asked how he'd make facebook smarter, zuckerberg said, we won't. we're just gonna use facebook to make humans dumber. [ laughter and applause ] that makes sense. like me, like me. [ light laughter ] of course, everyone's getting excited about the new "star wars" movie coming out next month. i'm excited. [ cheers and applause ] in fact, i saw that there's a a life-sized replica of an
10:39 pm
x-wing on display at an airport in singapore. yeah, it seats two people and doesn't actually fly. then jetblue said "we'll take it." [ laughter and applause ] uh, we're gonna be on the tarmac for another four hours. we have some complementary blue tara chips coming around, you guys. guys, here's some -- thank you. i'm done. >> steve: all right. >> jimmy: what else going on? here's some business news here, you guys. marriott reached a $12 billion deal to buy starwood hotels and resorts, which now makes hotel chain. that's right. at first the deal only cost $9 billion, but then they celebrated with a tiny bottle of champagne from the minibar, made it $12 billion. [ applause ] i didn't know how much it was. >> steve: that's pricey. >> jimmy: and this is going did you see this? this is really funny. i guess, a dad from ireland used his son's go-pro to film
10:40 pm
his trip to vegas. have you seen this? but apparently, he didn't realize he was shooting everything in selfie mode. i mean, it goes on for like an hour. but anyways, here's some highlights. look at this. >> look at that. looks stunning. [ laughter ] beautiful. >> jimmy: beautiful. look at how beautiful that thing is right there. and look at over there down the street. isn't that gorgeous right there? oh, you'll never see that. oh, no, you'll never see that. [ light laughter ] fantastic. [ applause ] oh, look at that. oh, it's beautiful. oh, i can't wait to watch this back. >> steve: double rainbow. >> jimmy: that explains the new slogan, "what happened in vegas?" that story, of course, is brought to you by dads, they're the same everywhere. it doesn't matter where you're from. [ applause ] look at that right there, down the street. oh, wow. i saw that this week marks the
10:41 pm
20th anniversary of the usb cable. that's right, people celebrated the occasion by plugging in a a usb cable wrong, flipping it over, and somehow still wrong, and then flipping it over a a third time and plugging it in correctly. [ cheers and applause ] yeah, perfect. what the heck am i doing wrong? you guys, now that marijuana is becoming legal in so many places, i saw there's now a a university called oaksterdam in oakland, california. that's just a business school for legal marijuana. kind of like regular college but with less weed. [ applause ] you know what i'm saying? it's a business school. and finally, this really made me laugh, you guys. i saw that two zebras escaped from a circus in philadelphia this week. and led police on a chase through the city. now, of course, a lot of people saw the zebras, including this woman, and check out what she was wearing. >> it was a daring escape, and
10:42 pm
afternoon, two cunning circus zebras almost got away with it. >> everybody was runnin' full speed. [ laughter ] they came around and came around. and stopped right there, and started to cross. [ applause ] >> jimmy: license and registration. i think it may have been the zebra in a really good disguise. we have a great show, you guys. give it up for the roots. [ cheers and applause ] >> jimmy: all right, everyone. welcome, welcome, welcome, welcome, welcome. welcome, everybody. hey everybody, got some exciting news, here. check out who's on the cover of the new "esquire" magazine. hello, it's me. [ cheers and applause ] as santa's helper and then me as a baby as well. scary.
10:43 pm
>> steve: santa and the baby. >> jimmy: i'm santa's helper and the crying child on his lap, yeah. which is -- but this is the big holiday issue. i'm very excited to be on the cover of any magazine. but, of course, "esquire" this is a big honor for me. it's all the gift giving guides, it's got everything in here, all the good articles, all cool styles, and you get some free cologne samples. >> steve: oh, nice. >> jimmy: yeah. and then you get a nice picture. there's another picture of me as santa's helper on the cover. look. [ cheers and applause ] it was super fun. i want to thank the writer, scott raab, who really, i was with him for probably two weeks. remember -- remember him? >> steve: yeah, he was a good dude. >> jimmy: he was here, we hung t almost every day. he didn't really like me. [ light laughter ] but i think by the end of the article, i think he came around a little. maybe a little bit. >> steve: you grew on him. >> jimmy: i don't know, but maybe. i don't know, i haven't talked to him since this. i don't know what to say. hey, man, kind of like the article, thanks. but it's the realest article i think i've done. and he's just a great guy. i love this guy. also, the photographer, robert trachtenberg, and the
10:44 pm
editor david granger, thank you so much for putting me on the cover. [ applause ] scott, good job, buddy. i really appreciate that. we've got a big week of shows coming up. higgins, tomorrow night, from the highly anticipated new movie "the hunger games mockingjay part 2" katniss herself. >> steve: oh! >> jimmy: jennifer lawrence will be here. >> steve: yeah! >> jimmy: tomorrow night. >> steve: a delight. >> jimmy: jennifer and i have something very special planned. very special. be sure to tune in for that tomorrow night. me and jennifer lawrence. then later this week, rachel weisz, r. kelly, and gordon ramsay. [ applause ] >> steve: oh. >> jimmy: my man, gordon ramsay, will be joining us. am i gonna, the kids, competing with children? i will, yeah? i take competing very seriously. and i don't care if i make them cry. [ light laughter ] >> steve: right. you gotta win. >> jimmy: part of the job, you guys. a great show tonight. she won the best actress prize at the cannes film festival for her performance in the new movie "carol."
10:45 pm

[ cheers and applause ] >> jimmy: she won. >> steve: she won it. >> jimmy: yeah. talented, talented, talented. also, from "modern family" everybody loves this guy. jesse tyler ferguson is stopping by. >> steve: yeah. >> jimmy: he's a talented guy as well. and then, this guy, i mean, we've had him on the show a a zillion times. he always brings it. he's just a hard working guy. he's going to perform his new hit single "sorry." we have music from justin bieber. [ cheers and applause ] >> steve: whoa. >> jimmy: his album "purpose." "purpose" is the name of the new alm. but he's -- i'm loving the new he kind of took his, his, his justin, he had justin beiber, and he was justin bieber, then he just kind of blew up that sound. and he has a new sound, and it's almost like a, south or like or like a caribbean type of jam to it. this is "sorry," here it is, if you don't know the song. this is justin bieber's new jam.
10:46 pm
yeah i know that i let you down >> jimmy: right. is it too late to say i'm sorry now >> steve: can't believe that. [ cheers ] sorry sorry sorry! that's it. that's all you get. >> steve: what, what, what? >> jimmy: sorry. [ light laughter ] you're gonna have to wait for later in the show. so if you don't like it, then i'm sorry. [ light laughter ] i want to play the whole song but i'm sorry "purpose" comes out right there. [ cheers and applause ] number one. number one right now. >> steve: number one. >> jimmy: number one on itunes, everything. >> steve: everywhere. >> jimmy: number one album. good for him, man. he's a hard working guy. plus, this sunday is the nascar sprint cup championship race. okay, it's a big deal. so justin bieber and i, jesse and i, we're gonna team up with the top four nascar drivers. i'm talkin' about martin truex jr., kyle busch, kevin harvick, and the legendary jeff gordon

11:07 pm
so i w w really nervous. and it's awful watching yourself on film regardless of what's going to happen at the but knowing -- >> jimmy: you judging things. better." >> yeah, like the first 35 minutes, i was like, "wow, i'm not that bad. this is pretty, like -- this is pretty good." >> jimmy: you're pulling this one off, yeah. place. but then everyone's clapping for like ten minutes straight and they donon stop. so, it's confusing becauau you hate yourself, and everyone loves you. and it's like, you don't know what's real. [ light laughter ] >> jimmy: what's real? oh, my gosh. i can tell you one thing that's [ laughter ] he is real. [ applause ] >> i believed in santa until a a very embarrassing age. >> jimmy: yeah, me too. i still do. well, look at this. i have -- this is one of the things, you go to cannes or cannes, whatever you want to call it. you go to cannes, and there's thousands and thousands of taking your photos, interviewing you the whole time you're there. there's you with the director and your co-star and you're happy and having a good time. >> i made such a stupid face. >> jimmy: that's not a stupid
11:08 pm
face. it's a gorgeous face that you have. and you're there and you're having a good time. and then what's funny is that these photographers they also have -- they're taking pictures, and what do they get? you know. [ laughter ] here you are smiling for the other photographer on this side, it's like the last supper. you knkn? [ laughter ] ] the other side, you get the best view. yeah. so then, there's also photographers here. and you go, "oh, what are they taking a photo of? and here's what's great. here's'shy you're having such a a good time. [ laughter ] that really made me laugh. [ cheers and applause ] oh, my gosh. that's funny. it's so weird. that, too. >> jimmy: yeah, right. you thought it was just your thing. >> yeah, i thought i was the only one. up the movie at all? this is set in the 50's. o women. >> jimmy: yep, mm-hmm. >> it takes place in the '50s around christmas time, and -- yeah. >> jimmy: it's you and >> that was a horrible pitch, yeah. >> jimmy: no, that's what it basically is.
